Hit and run - the runner goes after making sure the pitcher has thrown to the plate, the batter is obligated to swing at the pitch. If the batter misses the pitch the runner is usually a dead duck.
Run and hit - the runner is obligated to run and the batter can swing or not as he sees fit. The runner has a better chance to steal the base but can get picked off easier (in the real world at least).
Steal - The runner goes if he thinks he can get a jump and the batter is obligated to take the pitch.
