Taking advantage of players
Player A wants 5 million/year for 3 years.
I offer him 4.5 million/year for 4 years.
His counter offer is 4.5 million/year for 3 years
I then offer 4 million/year for 4 years
He counter offers 4 million/year for 3 years
I eventually settle on a contract for 2.5 million/year for 3 years (he started with great morale and ended as very unhappy)
When the player is set on a certain number of years, in this case 3, you can lower his demands pretty significantly.
This is useful for meeting a budget, but it is very unrealistic.
