Cubs Only Undefeated Side After Even Opening Weekend
The Chicago Cubs swept the Kansas City Royals and were the only team to end the opening weekend of the season perfect. The weekend saw alot of even baseball and is sure to foretell a very competitive year.

Jim Maloney was the man of the night as he throws the first shutout of the season and was in control the entire game. An amazing one hit effort, the only hit coming from Joe Torre in the 5th inning.

The Yankees come back from a three run deficit in the late innings and a Derek Jeter solo home run in the 8th inning in the diffrence. Kirby Puckett drove in three but Jim Kaat couldnt hold the lead. In the three games Babe Ruth failed to drive in a single run.

Sal Bando went 3-3 but the Brewers really coulnt solve Orel Hershisert and the Dodgers take the rubber game of the series. The Dodgers scored two runs quietly in the 2nd inning and held on the rest of the way.

The A's crank out 15 hits but couldnt muster enough runs and were beat by the Mariners and the long ball. It was Ken Griffey Jr's first home run of the season that broke a 5-5 tie in the 8th inning and allowed the Mariners to take the series.

The Cubs blow away the Royals and sweep the opening series of the season. Dennis Leonard had nothing and didnt make it through the third inning as the Cubs plated 6 runs in the third. Hack Wilson had a bases loaded triple and had 7 RBI in the three games.

Pedro Martinez made his debut and was mixed in a duel with John Lackey. The Red Sox won their second game in walk off fashio when Johnny Pesky doubled in Dom DiMaggio in the 11th. Ted Williams looked rough in left field with a bad error.
