428 Fighters, 214 Qualify.


1. Fighting Harada (IBF) 20-0 (13)...40-0 (25)

A 12 rd UD over Pete Herman & a ten round UD over Nipper Pat Daly got Harada off and running. He then won the IBF strap with a 6th round TKO over Waldemiro Pinto. Harada made 12 successful defenses with the most notable being a UD15 over Wladimir Sidorenko & a 10th Round TKO over Chuco Castillo.


2. Vic Darchinyan 19-1 (9)...59-1 (39)

Vic won a dominant UD12 over Cristian Mijares and starched Jimmy Walsh in one round. He followed a tough SD10 over David Kui Kong Young with a UD12 over Sung Kil Moon. Then two big TKO wins over Raul Perez & Lionel Rose in eight rounds and three. A UD10 over Joe Lynch and a 12rd UD over Daly stretched his winning streak to 58 before he was dropped twice late en route to a tough UD12 defeat to Nonito Donaire. Darchinyan finished an impressive bantam campaign with a 10 rd UD over Charles LeDoux.


3. Nonito Donaire 17-2-1 (13)...54-3-3 (38)

After a couple nondescript wins Nonito dropped a 12rd SD to Tim Austin and drew over twelve rounds with harry Harris. After a 10rd UD over Jung II Byun he lost a tight MD12 to Terry McGovern. Then Donaire won a UD12 over Fernando Montiel to start an 11 fight winning streak including a ninth rd KO of Daly, a TKO2 over Erik Morel and the UD12 over Darchinyan.


4. Jimmy Barry 19-0-1 (9)...36-1-3 (16)

Barry won a UD10 over Franco Zurlo and then stopped the 45 fight winning streak of Koki Kameda with a 4th rd DQ. Alberto Davila & Gerry Penalosa both dropped unanimous decisions over ten. He drew with Agustin Senin over 12 rounds before closing with a tough SD10 over Pinto.


5. Fidel LaBarba 19-0-1 (6)...38-0-2 (13)

Fidel won 10rd Majority decisions over Julian Solis & Rose as well as a UD12 over Lynch. He drew over 10 with Danny Kid before finishing with a UD10 over Archie Bell.


6. Wilfredo Gomez 18-2 (17)

Hozumi Hasegawa went the distance, but lost a 12rd UD. Johnny Carter was destroyed in 2 rounds before Julio Gamboa stopped Bazooka in the opening round because of cuts. After a couple lesser wins Wilfredo floored Jose Medal in the opening round before once again being stopped on cuts in four. He iced Medel in 3 one sided rounds in a rematch and knocked out Midget Wolgast in 10 and Ruben Olivares in 1 to finish on a destructive roll.


7. Jesus Pimentel 17-3 (11)

Jesus dropped a UD10 to Castillo before winning a unanimous ten rounder off of Johnny Tapia. He dropped a UD12 to Johnny Coulon before being decimated in one round by Gaby Canizales. He then took eleven straight including a 6th round KO over Medel & a second round blowout of Ratanachai Sor Vorapin.


8. Manuel Ortiz 20-0 (13)

He dropped Charley Phil Rosenberg 3 times on the way to a dominant UD12. Then a UD10 over Davila and a UD12 over Senin. Eijiro Murata was knocked out cold in 2 and Pablo Dano in 7 before he finished up with a 1rd TKO over Daniel Zaragoza.


9. Tim Austin 18-2 (9)

Tim opened with a razor close MD10 defeat to Wolgast. His big SD win over Donaire was followed by a 4th round blow out of Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym before Tim dropped a disputed SD10 to Chuco Castillo. He won his last 12 including a UD10 over Vic Foley, UD12 over Montiel and a 7thg round knock out of Eddie Campi.


10. Carlos Zarate 20-0 (17)

Carlos didn't have the most impressive list of opponents, but he was never pressed. Stopping harry jeffra in eleven and Packey O'Gatty in seven before saving the best for last as he devastated the previously unbeaten Baltazar Sangchili in 2 rounds.
