Crystal Lake Edges Sligo 3-2 In Game 2
Slight underdog Crystal Lake has outpitched and outhit favored Sligo in the first two games of the RU Final 4, winning two close games... winning pitcher Ralph McCullough (2-0 1.80) got the best of Rover ace Les Patterson (1-3 3.24) 3-2... McCullough went 8 strong innings, allowed 2 runs and 6 hits with no walks and 6 strikeouts... closer Roger Bishop (3.38) finished Sligo off with a perfect ninth... Patterson hurled a complete game, yielding 3 runs on 6 hits, fanning 9 and walking one... CF Andy McGee (.267) won it with a solo homer in the last of the eighth, snapping a 2-2 tie... 2B Greg Murphy (.346) also homered in the first inning for the Crushers... CF Chris Michel (.212) and RF Clell Renshaw (.394) drove in the Sligo runs in the third and eighth.
Midway Evens Series, Dorignac Sinks Suns 5-2
A last-minute change in starters paid off for Midway manager Cochise Chandler... he gave the ball to 22-year-old Bobby Dorignac instead of the scheduled starter Dakota Dyami... Dorignac has looked better in the playoffs... Dorignac downed Arroyo Grande 5-2 to gain a split in the first two games of the TU Final 4 Series... Dorignac (2-0 1.59) bent, but didn't break... he gave up 9 hits, but only 2 runs... Dom Vilaggio blanked the Suns in the ninth for his second save in the postseason this year... Ernie Matthews was the losing pitching in a lackluster start... Matthews (1-1 4.91) was rocked for 5 runs and 6 hits in 7 innings... C Sammy Murphy (.250) collected the winning hit with and RBI single in the 4-run sixth that put the Wolves up 5-1... SS Masko Chandler (.111) then delivered the crusher, a 3-run shot that put Midway out of reach... Arroyo Grande outhit the Wolves 9 to 6, but just didn't get timely hits.
