Cooperstown Tonight
Teddy Continues Impressive Month
Teddy Higuera of the Milwaukee Brewers could not have dreamed of a better start in the Cooperstown baseball league. Higuera took the mound on Friday night in Tronto and did it again. Higuera led the Brewers to a 3-1 win over Roy Halladay and the Blue Jays and bettered his perfect season record of 5-0.
Higuera is one of the early favorites for the Cy Young award and in his five victories has pitched all the innings in five complete games. Teddy struck out nine in this win and continues to lead baseball in this catagory with 43 punch outs.
Prince Fielder went 3-5 in the game and drove in two of the three runs.
Red Sox Stay Hot
Ted Williams hit his fifth home run of the season and Nomar Garciappara went deep as well as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles 8-2.
Roger Clemens had a strong outing while Mike Mussina allowed seven earned runs as the Red Sox battered 17 hits. Wade Boggs drove in another run and suprizingly leads the Sox with 12 RBI batting in the 8th spot.
The Red Sox are 8-5 and remain a half a game ahead of the idle New York Yankees.
JR Richard Nothing But Smoke
Anyone who saw JR Richard throw on Friday night had to be imopressed. The right handwer was throwing harder then anyone has seen in a while and threw a complete game shutout to silence the New York Mets.
Richard who is working to be consistency struck out 12 in this one and truly had overpowering stuff. Richard is still 2-3 on the season and even with the win has an ERA still over 4.
Jeff Bagwell hit his 6th home run of the season in the 2-0 win over New York.
