Player edit question

I don't know where to put this so i guess the best place for me is the new people forums.

I gotten this game from a friend for my birthday because he knew how much i love sports games and especially simulation games. I play games like Football Manager and EHM too.

I am loving the game right now and as i did in the past with EHM and FM on a forum i start a ''grass roots'' game.

It basically comprises of people signing up their own player and me putting it in the game and simulation the seasons and those players their careers.

All and well and such and after a bit of fumbling about i found the editor and also the ability to create new players.

But i am totally confused about all the stats thrown at me.

The Ratings editor is where i lose track of editing and get confused.

Because my idea is to make all those players draft youngsters who essentially start out in the minor leagues for Major League teams.

But as i have no idea to what the average skills are for a player of a certain age and potential i don't know what guidelines i should follow.

It's obvious that i shouldn't make all their skills 250 if i want them to ripe first because they will become demi-gods.

I also don't want to make them too bad so that it will take a long time to reach the big leagues.

So after all this talking my question is pretty simple.

What are the skill levels i should try to stick by.
E.g. How much potential is good for a solid MLB player, how much is good for a all-star.
Around how much should their starting skills be like to not make them too bad or too good.

You don't need to hold my hand or anything, i just need a rule of thumb to stick by so i can make a fun game for the people who signed up.

If i am confusing in any way please tell me :P
