You have a player coming off of an injury and you have the option of allowing them to make a couple of starts in the minors inorder to get their feel for their stuff and performance levels back up to their pre injury levels.
#2 - Conditioning stints
This one is pretty much the same as above except say you sign a player as a FA and you want to get them a few atbats/innings in the minors before they can join the Major League club full time. I'm not sure if they do this in MLB I may be getting it confused with the NHL!

Maybe they could have a "rust" level or something.. and the amount of starts in the minors is determined by the severity of the injury? Or maybe their ratings are lower until they play a few games?
