I play all them, but mostly fictional. Lately I've been playing a universe style with Korean, Japan, Mexico, and completely fictional australian and south american leagues. I use real MLB rosters that come with the game. It's pretty cool to see guys that would ride the pine in the MLB end up in Australia or some othe league and be productive.
When I do historical I usually only play the periods I like and sim the rest. I'm a big fan of the 50's and 60's as well as the 80's.
