Runs matter a lot in baseball but it isn't the all important stat. A teams success is often determined by how many wins they get so I would say that wins is a more important stat if you really want to break down what matters, which is just like every other sport. Runs matter less then others sports scoring systems, Soccer for an example use goal difference as tie breaker between teams and I believe Ice Hockey does as well. My argument was that he actually did something for his team and that what he did was worth more then just striking out all the time, his performance even though it wasn't directly involved in runs actually did matter.
