LGO is the authority on this but by the rules I believe in RL teams can send down rule 5 picks but they have to clear waivers first. The team the player was picked from has first priority if they want the guy back, which is rare. I think after clearing waivers a rule 5 can be demoted. I have not tried putting a rule 5 pick on waivers so I don't know if this works in the game if you waive and DFA him. The problem is the OOTP rule is slightly off. It should be the guy must remain on the roster unless he clears waivers, IIRC. Also teams pay a fee to the team they pick the guy from when they rule 5 draft him.
