RR's Shelton Selected RU's Top Batter
It's been a year of triumph for veteran Paul Shelton of the Rocky Rapids Snappers as he hit his way to the 2019 Ruthlandian Union Golden Bat Award. The 29-year-old veteran second baseman compiled a .340 average and .376 on-base percentage by putting together 212 hits, 44 doubles, 6 triples, 46 home runs and 33 walks. Shelton also scored 124 times and led the IPA with 153 runs batted in. It's the first time Shelton has won the best batter award.
Claxton's talented first baseman Mike Luzzatti was the number two votegetter. Luzzatti batted .316 with 44 roundtrippers, 134 RBIs and 105 runs scored. Luzzatti's teammate George McKay wound up third. McKay hit at a .320 clip with 40 home runs, 121 runs batted in and 131 runs.
2019 TU Best Batter, High Mesa's Elliott
So what's new? Jack Elliott won another Gold Bat to add to his collection? Yep, he did - for the 7th successive season. Every year the superb High Mesa first sacker has been in the league, he has won the award as the best hitter. This year was no different. The 26-year-old Elliott again had quite a year by hitting .358 as he collected 209 hits, 33 doubles, 10 triples, 53 home runs and 125 RBIs. He also topped the TU with 150 runs, in addition to leading in batting average. Elliott has won the batting crown for the last five years.
Turon's terrific first baseman Clyde Kingsford gave Elliott fits in the voting. Kingsford led the league with 151 RBIs and 54 homers, while batting .339 and scoring 127 times. LaClaire's Flash Devlin ended up in third place. The Lynx third baseman posted a .320 mark at the plate with 39 home runs, 111 RBIs and 115 runs scored.
