Small sample size warning. How many times have you done it? 
As for usage, just like real life. I use (more correctly used to use) it when first base is open 3B or 2B or both occupied and a big time hitter is up. Using pitch around increases the chances of a BB. Most of the time now I do an IBB or just pitch.
