Based on my experience with people in chat rooms and forums over the past 15 years I can tell you the answer to your remark is simply....no they wouldn't.
Given the number of times I've given out my address and phone number and NEVER heard from them it is safe to assume the anonymity brings out the best in them. My guess is those people are afraid of their own shadow.
I did learn over time though that when people react to those people they are just fanning the flame. That is exactly what they want. I found that by ignoring them totally they will go away.
