Jack The Ripper Saves Padres
Coming off of a very good series against the Brooklyn Dodgers the San Diego Padres returned home to a full house to take on the Washington Nationals. Dave Drevecky got the call to try and win the home opener and keep the early season momentum going. Bill Spaceman Lee took the mound for the Nationals.

Leading 2-0 in the 6th inning the two hottest Nationals hitters came through as Marquis Grissom and Rusty Staub contributed in a three run inning to put the Nats up. Benito Santiago cut the lead to one in the bottom of the inning but the Natiinals did their best to close things out.

Felipe Alou decided not to go to his bullpen and John Wettlend but rather let Bill Lee close things out. In the 9th Adrian Gonzalez singled and up came Jack Clark representing the winning run. With the bullpen finally warming Clark took the count full and knew that Lee didnt want to move the tying run along so he challanged Jack. Clark ripped a fastball that got out of the yard in a hurry and gave the Padres another big win.

The Padres are now 3-1 and are riding a wave of enthusiasm following this late inning win at home. Bruce Bochey has this team believing in itself.

Giants Find A Way again
In another dramatic finish on the coast the San Francisco Giants continue to turn it on when they need to and win baseball games. Trailing 4-0 in the 7th against the Diamondback Willie Mays lifted his first home run of the season to cut the lead but the Snakes still had a one run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.

Byung Kim was on the mound and walked the first man before Matt Mantei came one and walked two more to load the bases with one out. Mel Ott then singled to right and Roger Breshnahan beat the throw to the plate as the Giants won in their final atbat for the second straight game.

Arizona drops to 0-4.

Higuera stays hot as Brewers win again
Brewers starter Teddy Higuera became the first pitcher to win two games this season as he handcuffed the Kansas City Royals in a 4-1 win. Teddy struck out 12 Royals which is a high so far this season and looks to be taking on the role of team ace for the Brewers very well.

Paul Molitor also went 4-5 in the win including hitting his first home run of the season, Milwaukee is 4-1 already on the young season and are looking confident going forward.

"Getting off to a good start is a big key for us" says team leader Robin Yount.
