Wow! Ancona Did It!
The amazing Ancona Red Elephants defied logic and upset the Rocky Rapids Snappers in seven games to win the Ruthlandian Final 4... down 4-0 in the second inning and 5-1 after six, the Red Elephants roared back to defeat the Snappers 9-7 in 10 innings by scoring 2 runs in each of the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth frames... CF Ken Rutledge tripled in the winning score and LF Kenny Willard tacked on an insurance run with a single... Ancona battered the Snappers for 14 hits, while giving up 11... John Sharpe (1-0 3.38) got credit for the win, despite surrendering a run in his 2 innings... Nikon Maragos, the fifth Ancona hurler, got the save with a scoreless tenth... loser Milt Baker (0-1 3.60), who hadn't allowed a run in the playoffs, was belted hard for 2 runs and 5 hits in an inning and two-thirds... Rutledge (.300), Willard (.262) and RF Louie DiMucci (.302) led the Red Elephants with 2 hits each... CF Carl Johnson (.245) cracked 3 hits for the Snappers and batted in 3 runs... 3B Paul Shelton (.241) also had 3 hits and LF Rob Barton got a 2-run homer... Ancona's next mountain to climb is the Turon Typhoons, who won the Tycobbian Final 4... the Pro Cup begins Thursday at Typhoon Stadium in Turon.
