Yes a playoff is needed. I haven't watched a bowl game in years, not even the fake Championship game.
Have yet to hear a legitimate excuse from any BCS apologist over the years. Like someone else has already stated, the reason why there is so much resistance against a playoff is the money distribution. The people who run the bowls and big conferences aren't interesting in sharing the wealth.
