Escanaba Miners of the NML, had the second worst record in the leagues first season 1921, in the 1922 season the Miners took their division and went on to destroy their opponent in the league champsionship that season. The Miners followed up with another championship in 1923 and set a record for wins for the league at 104 (since broken).

I should point out that the team the Miners beat for the 1922 championship was the Rochester Ravens who had the 3rd worst record in the 1921 season. Both teams had huge turn arounds.
