Best one I can remember happened in GDBA with the Detroit Tigers:
1938 48-106 (Worst record in the league)
1939 94-60 (Won division, lost in playoffs)
They nearly doubled their previous years win total thanks to a couple of kids named Ted Williams (drafted in 1939) and Joe DiMaggio.
