We are just about the start the 1997 off season with arbitration on Friday.
With the end of year, we have seven teams open:
Austin Riverbats - division winner (93 wins) with a solid financial footing.
Baltimore Monarchs - another division winner (97 wins) with plenty of money in the bank.
Calgary Marauders - won 89 games this year. Came out of a financial hole and will carry a cash balance forward. Has a solid minor league system.
Long Beach Surfers - last in their division but with a solid core of minor leaguers moving up the ladder.
Louisville Sluggers - won 95 games in the league's toughest and failed to make the playoffs. A solid lineup to work from. Tons of money.
Montreal Blazers - the league worst team for someone wanting to rebuild. Plenty of budget room to work with.
Omaha Barnstormers - won 71 games. Has a 5-star potential pitcher in AAA ready to make an impact at the big league level.
