Hines' Streak Ended
Charlotte slugger's hitting streak ends at 28
CHARLOTTE -- What's been an incredible second half for Cougars leftfielder Paul Hines culminated in a hitting streak that approached the PBL record of 33, held by Louisville's Richie Ashburn.
And it was Ashburn who watched from the visitors dugout as Hines' streak ended at 28 games, the fourth longest in history.
Louisville topped Charlotte 6-3, and Paul Hines went 0-for-4, the last coming on an error from Jim Lefebvre. The error was obvious, and nobody disputed it after the game, least of all Hines.
"Jim makes that play 99 out of 100 times," Hines said. "I didn't get it done today. Simple as that."
Since July 1, Hines has hit .341 with 19 homers and 47 RBI. Charlotte has gone 28-20 over that stretch, but remains 17 games behind runaway leader Louisville.
