Post ER Rollover problem in historical league

It's safe to say that Watty Lee from the 1903 Washington Senators was a little wore out after the season:

Yes, 73 starts. One of the other Senator pitchers got injured that year and Watty took the blunt of it. I don't think anyone will be approaching his single season losses, GS or IP records!

My concern lies in the # of ER. After he gave up 256, the number rolled back to 0 and started over. So, instead of an ERA near 4 it turned into a 0.55 ERA.
