Wild Game Sends Giants Through

Crosley Field - A clinching game is never an easy task as the 05 Giants found out a Crosley Field. A wild ninth inning sent this game to extra innings where a bases loaded walk and a passed ball gave the game to New York 9-7. The Giants win the series over the 19 Reds three games to one after dropping the opener.

Both teams went with less then their best on the mound for this game and the runs soon followed. Back to back triples helped plate two runs for the Giants in the first inning off Reds starter Jimmy Ring. The Reds did bounce back with two of their own in the third inning after loading the bases with no one out.

A close game was really broken open by the Giants in the 8th inning when to their suprize another long ball came their way. Bill Dahlen showed his strength as he took a fast ball over the left fied wall for a three run home run and gave the Giants a commanding 4 run lead. The Reds however hung their heads for only a short while as this game was still far from over.

The game went to the 9th and Dummy Taylor stayed on the mound but a leadoff error started things off sour. After a single Pat Duncan doubled in a run bringing up Greasy Neale. Neale then singled to center to score one and after a very close play at the plate to score another. Representing the tying run Neale then stole second base and was moved to third on a sacrafice. With one down Ed Roush flies to right and with Neale tagging up another close play was set at the plate; Neale got under the tag that would have ended the game and tied it in most dramatic fashion. An impressive comeback by the Reds indeed.

Taylor stayed in the game and threw over 150 pitches in a determined effort. The Reds brought on their ace Dolf Luque to try and save the series and the game but it just wasnt meant to be. Luque didnt have his control and loaded the bases with one out. The Luque felt the pressure and he walked Dan McGann on four straight pitches and then a passed ball plated another.

The series ended with what most would say had the better team winning. As John McGraw saw fit, losing was just not an option.
