New York 16, Chicago 10: The Hitmen got homers from Babe Ruth, Biz Mackey, Ed Delahanty and Milton Bradley but couldn't overcome a 3-for-3 6 RBI performance from Orlando Hudson, who hit his first homer of the season and tripled his RBI output in the wild matchup. Former Hitman Josh Beckett (13-8) was hit hard but got the win. Johan Santana (11-7, 4.93) was hit hard for the second straight game.

Sacramento 9, Wichita 2: In what could be a pivotal series in the chase down the stretch, the Stingers host the red-hot Brigade and cool them off in Game One. Harry Walker was the only Stingers starter without a hit, though he walked twice. Carlos Marmol (10-11, 3.95) got the win with 8 strong innings. Jay Hughes (9-13, 4.57) was knocked out in the third.
