I agree with you on that last point, for sure. That's always been my stance; for example, the Cliff Lee thing would have been great
only if they re-signed him. I dunno - that's like putting myself in handcuffs if I am Cashman.
Better sign him to avoid looking bad so pay him whatever he wants.
