It sounds like you have scouting on.
Select the manager_name (your name) drop-down box and select your team's home page. From there you should see tabs running across the screen near the top of the page (above your team's information). One of the tabs (8th from the left) is "Scouting and Personnel". Click that tab and information about your scout will be displayed.
If you look at the bar under the "Scouting and Personnel" tab you just clicked, over to the far left, you should see buttons for "Scouting" (where you are at) and "Team Personnel". Click the "Team Personnel" button to see all of your team's staff. Make sure you have someone hired for each position. If there's an open position, it would only hurt your team. I'm assuming you know how to hire staff since you mentioned you hired a coach. If not, let us know and we can explain. Before you leave this screen though,...
Notice at the right-hand bottom of the screen, there is a drop-down button for "affiliated teams", just above the "Finish Day" button. If you click on that drop-down, you can select your minor league teams (if you have them in your sim). Make sure you have all of their staff hired also. The minor league teams don't have trainers, bench coaches or scouts. When you've finished with your minor league teams, don't forget to click back on the "affiliated teams" button to select your major league team before you continue.
