2012 Tycobbian Union Pro Cup Final 4 Series - Game 3
Gautier 2-1 Winner, Nats Lead 'Canes 2-1 in Final 4
Ozarka manager Joe Mac Carney went to an unlikely source for a starting pitcher in game 3 of the TU Final 4. He went to long reliever and spot starter Rene Gautier, who only made 5 starts among his 48 appearances this year. Gautier was 5-5 on the season with a 3.99 ERA. Last year in the Pro Cup Finals Carney went to Gautier in a crucial game and he was bombed - but not this year - the 32-year-old southpaw responded with the game of his life - a 2-1 victory over Cape Coral that gave the Naturals a 2-1 edge in the best-of-seven series. In a magnificent outing Gautier limited the Hurricanes to just one run and 2 hits over 7 and a third innings, struck out 9 and walked 3. Luther Hatch and Philip Britt nailed down the game by blanking Cape Coral the rest of the game. Loser Adam Lundgren (0-1 2.40) also pitched a whale of a game, surrendering only two runs and four hits in seven strong innings.
In the top of the fourth, the Hurricanes scored first on a homer by CF Derek Ryckman (.281), who got his 5th postseason home run. The Nats finally got something going in the last of the sixth against Lundgren. CF Paul Noah (.258) led off with a base on balls, advanced to second on a bunt, then came across on 2B Gil Lantz's (.353) RBI single. Lantz went to second on the throw home and was driven in by LF Vic Weinstein's (.303) line-drive single. Ozarka got only 5 hits in the game, while Cape Coral was held to just 3.
