Alvarez Crafts Shutout in White Sox Win

New York - The 1994 Chicago White Sox bounced right back after missing numerous chances in game one of their series with the 78 Yankees. The guile and pitching stuff of Wilson Alvarez was just what they needed as they tied the series in the Bronx by shutting out the Yanks 5-0.

Julio Franco on the offensive end had Yankee starter Dick Tidrow's number as drove in three runs including a two run single in the 5th inning. The White Sox plated 4 in the inning as the presence of Frank Thomas in the lineup is giving other Sox hitters good pitches to hit. Tim Raines and Lance Johnson combined to go 4-9 on the night including three stolen bases between them.

The story of the night however was Alvarez who had a nasty curveball going and had great movement on his fastball. Lou Piniella did go 3-5 but Alvarez had 8 strikeouts and there was never a thought of pulling out the left hander from this game, as he went the distance with ease. The White Sox have yet to use their bullpen in the first two games.

"We are confident going back home" said Frank Thomas who walked twice tonight, "they like to do alot of talking, but we are here to play and win the games."

Catfish Hunter will get the call in Chicago as home field advantage has now gone to the Sox as the pivotal game three looms.
