Tampa Bay selects CF Leon Rodriguez (18) from Moyer HS in Chicago. He hit .624 with 22 homers his senior year of high school. He has great power for his age and lightning fast speed. The Rays hope he will be a future 30/30 player.
Detroit selects 2B Fred “Mr. Miracle” Heller from Jackson Hole HS in Florida. Heller earned his nickname by hitting 7 game winning homeruns in his three-year varsity career. His ceiling is probably higher than anyone else in this draft because of his 6’4 230lbs frame.
Baltimore selects CF Francis Tamez (18) from Venezuela. He has good speed, good power and good discipline at the plate. He probably won’t be a star, but he’ll probably be an everyday player in the future.
MIL selects 3B Francis Choe (19) from Tempe JC in Arizona. Choe already has above average major league power. This past season he hit 23 homeruns in 42 games as a sophomore in college. Scouts love his classic left-handed stroke.
CIN selects 1B Steve Devine (21) from University of Miami as the fifth overall pick. Devine hit .420 with 18 homeruns this past season with Miami. He also committed just one error at first base while displaying range beyond his years. Devine should debut sometime within the next couple years.
Lastly, Colorado picked P Nelson Kerry (21) from Auburn as the 16th overall pick. Scouts project him to be a future 2-3 pitcher in our organization.
