Arroyo Grande Star Captures TU Bat Crown
He has done it again - for a remarkable eighth time in ten years. This year's Tycobbian Union batting champ was 35-year-old right fielder Jet Kazmarek of the Arroyo Grande Suns. His .354 batting average was the best in the league. The Arroyo Grande star won the honor with 201 hits in 567 at-bats. He also tallied 20 home runs, 110 RBIs and scored 100 runs. Kazmarek also stole 34 bases. Lifetime Kazmarek sports a lofty .356 batting average.
Kazmarek had quite a battle to win the bat trophy this year. It was a hotly-contested affair with Harlan Roscoe (.351) of Colchester, who was edged out by only 3 percentage points. Bruno DiPirro (.345) of Bay St. Clair, Dane Wesner (.342) of Fairfax and Gerry Fields (.333), also of Bay St. Clair, were in the hunt, too.
Rovers Star Earns RU Bat Title
The Ruthlandian Union season came to a close with Fred Collins on top with a league-leading .347 batting average. It was his first title. The 32-year-old Sligo left fielder swung the bat well the entire season. He concluded the year with 186 hits, 24 doubles, 8 triples and 29 home runs with 120 runs scored, 103 RBIs and 25 stolen bases.
Collins outhit Lloyd Voss (.341) of Elnora, Billy Martz (.333) of Belair Beach, Miles Rogers (.330) of Taranto and Tucker Hill (.329) of Volusia to win the title.
