Cy Bentley Sets Standard
For the first time in the history of the game a player has pitched and won a total of 200 games. Who else but to accomplish this feat then Cy Bentley of the Boston Red Caps? Bentley beat the Cincinnati Reds on July 28th and has proved to be the best pitcher the league has known.
Bentley is out of East Haven and pitching close to home in Boston allowed him a confort and confidecne level early in his career. The right hander has won alsmost every award in his career including the pitcher of the year award 6 times.
And the 27 year old doesnt seem to be slowing down.
He has amassed a career record of 201-142 in over 3000 innings pitched and 361 games started. Bentley 445 men and has an ERA of 2.33. Coming into the league few scouts thought he would be this good as he was described as having less then good stuff, but his command on the mound can be undenied as he pitches as much with his brain then he does with his arm.
No doubt however what Bentley is most proud of. "Winning two championships in Boston is what means the most" No doubt at his age Bentley will be looking to win 200 more games and win more trophies.

Chicago Still in First; Anson player of the month
The player/manager for the Chicago White Stockings is leading the way as he always does. Chicago has the best record in the league at 26-12 but is in a division with another powerhouse, the 24-14 Boston Red Caps. Chicago only leads the race by 2 games and with 2 full months left to play fans are anticipating the best National League pennant race they have ever seen.
Anson batting .362, second in the league ans has driven in 25 runs while scoring a league leading 33. When some players like Steve King (.220), Dave Pierson (.217) and Ned Williamson (.171) not carrying their weight, Anson has been better then ever, batting .353 with runners in scoring position.
Rookie Pete Hotaling has made his debut and already has 6 hits in 14 atbats.
