Hero Ruth Delivers Yankee Win

The 1927 Yankees finally took the field at Yankee Stadium as many fans and press viewed Babe Ruth in all his prime. Ruth and the Bronx bombers expected to come out and overwhelm the 1960 Pirates but this game was as tight as can be and a small act of heroism would determine the reult of game 1.

In the very first inning Ruth hit a majestic home run to right field that carroed 432 feet of Vern Law. The shot was what everyone expected and gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead behind Waite Hoyt.

The Pirates pushed aside any intimidation and took the lead in the 3rd inning scoring twice on a Roberto Clemente two out two run single. Vern Law then took over the game and pitched like a real star holding the historic Yanks all the way to the bottom of the ninth with the same scoreline.

In the 9th after Ben Paschal led off the inning with a walk. Earle Combs doubled down the line to score the runner and tie the game at 2, a very clutch hit for the center fielder.

Ruth eventually came up with two out and Combs on second. On a 2-0 count Ruth smacks a ground ball past a diving Dick Stuart, Combs crosses the plate on a late throw, and the Yankees come from behind to take game 1.

A classic battle with a classic finish from the games most famous name.
