Yankees End Drama With Series Win
It took one game for the 1950 Yankees to get used to the turf and the space ball played in the Metrodome. A big way of making that happen is great pitching and Tommy Byrne out of nowhere pitched a gem in the 7-0 Yankee clinching win.
Byrne went 8.6 innings of shutout ball and allowed only 3 hits, an incredible feat indeed in the dome. Byrne did tire in the end but at that point New York was already thinking about the next round.
Johnny Hopp went 2-4 and drove in three runs as the Yankees played some small ball, a tactical diffrence then what we saw in game 3. Still it was the pitching that made the diffrence.
Mike Smithson just wasnt as good as he needed to be and allowed five earned runs while walking 6 men.
The favorites walk away in this series win.
