On Only 2 Hits Boston Extends Series
The 1916 Red Sox finally got their kind of game in the third game of this series and made the most of it, slipping past the 82 Cardinals by the slim margin of 3-2 and avoiding defeat in this series.
The Sox got only two hits in this game but it was good enough for the win. Tilly Walker doubled in a run and the quick Sox stole two bases in the second inning to break out on top by a two run margin off of Steve Mura in the second inning.
With the lead Ernie Shore went to work and deadened the Cardinals all afternoon. Mike Ramsey took Shore deep for a 409 foot homerun over what is eventually to become the green monster at Fenway in the 7th inning to cut the lead to one.
Vean Gregg however did his best Bruce Sutter impression and closed out the game in the 9th in relief. Boston now tries to do it again in Game 4 but will be ill advised if they expect only to get 2 hits again.
