Repeat in Series; Boston vs St. Louis

A repeat of last season's championship will be replayed as the St. Louis Browns go out for revenge against the team they lost out to last season, the power house Boston Red Stockings.

Boston ended their season on an average note, slowing down from their frantic pace and finishing the season 5-7 but still with an overall record of 38-22. Boston rested some of its starters and insists that their late season slump has nothing to do with how they will play in the Championship. The experts tend to agree as Boston is the clear favorites to repeat going in.

For St. Louis no doubt getting there was half the fun. In a bitter season long battle with the Baltimore Canaries, the Browns just came out on top on the very last day of the season. Down by one game with 2 to play against the Canaries, the Browns won both remaing games both on the road to take the league pennant. A heart breaking choke for Baltimore that were so close but a 2 run Jack Remsen triple in the top of the ninth turned the game around as Baltimore were three outs away from taking it.

So can the Browns pull the trick against Boston?

League Tidbits

.400 Good Enough
The National League batting title as expected went to Deacon White of the Red Stockings. White batted exactly .400 on the season and is the third player to do so. White lead the league with 106 hits.

Pabor with AL Hitting crown
Charlie Pabor can be happy with his season as his .345 average was the best in the American League. The 28 year old right fielder Pabor had 82 hits and 30 RBI on the season
