YANKS CONTROL GAME 1

With the stern leadership of Ty Cobb the 09 Tigers paid a visit to Andy Pettite and the 98 Yankees. Despite the grit it was the Yankees who won the opening game 5-2 and have comfirmed to many early on just how good they are going to be .

The Yankees in front of a full house the booed Ty Cobb in his fist at bat, put 5 on the board against George Mullin. Mullin didnt make it out of the first inning as he just didnt have his stuff walking 2 and allowing 7 of the first 9 batters to get on base.

Two triples in the first inning, one by Tino Martinez and the other by Jorge Posada drove in 3 of the 5 runs, and Andy Pettite had what he needed to control the Tigers the rest of the way.

The Tigers actually settled down after the rough first inning and through the arm of Ed Killian didnt allow the Bombers to score another run on the night, Detroit even outhit the home side 13-9. But Pettite was very good and did the job of getting the ball to Mariano Rivera who closed the door as expected even though he let up 2 hits in the ninth.

Mr. Cobb went 1 for 4 with a walk and wasnt the world beater he needed to be, but there is always tomorrow and game 2.
