White Stockings ready for inagural season

The Chicago White Stockings are ready to begin their spring training for the upcoming inagural Nartional profesional baseball league. The White Stockings will be managed by William Hulbert and will play their home games at the West Side Grounds near Halsted Street.

The team schedule will include 30 games, 15 home and 15 away. The top two division winners will face off in the championship. The National divisions are as follows:

AMERICAN
Cleveland Forest Citys
Philadelphia Athletics
St. Louis Brown Stockings
Baltimore Canaries

NATIONAL
Chicago White Stockings
Brooklyn Atlantics
Cincinnati Reds
Boston Red Stockings

The roster for the Chicago team is all follows:

Frank Fleet P
22 year old right hander out of New York. The Whites will try and stretch him into becoming a starter, but wether he has the stamina remains to be seen.

Fergy Malone C
28 year old Irishman has a hot temper and is decent with the bat. He is especially influencial on the club through his leadership.

Jim Foran 1B
Yong and raw the 22 year old is still learning his craft. He does have some power and is a good candidate to improve.

Joe Quest 2B
Tried out and made the squad. A very young border line pro player. Hasnt shown anything in the game but will have a chance to prove himself.

Gene Kimball 2B
Very timid at the plate but good with the glove, Kimball is expected to platoon at second base with Quest.

Cap Anson 3B
Most likely the biggest star in the game. Immediate impact player that will influence the game in a variety of ways. A true star.

Steve King LF
Out of Troy Michigan King is another star. He has a great ability to swing the bat and hit from behind the count.

Charlie Pabor LF
Will primarily back up King. Needs to show much more polish in his overall game.

Tom Berry RF
Doesnt have the skill set to make any impact at all. Will be stretched at this level and needs to be a suprize to stick around.

George Guebel RF
Lanky German outfielder has good ability. Right field will be all his this season to make an impact.

Nealy Phelps 1B
Shouldnt really start at this level. But has worked hard and will get his chance to make an impact.

Al Barker RF
At 32 is the oldest man on the team. Brings maturity to the dugout but little else.

Charlie Sweasy 2B
Jesrey boy can make an impact at this level. Has quick feet and a knack for the game.

Count Sensengerfer CF
Another star and likely elite prospect. Has outstanding speed and a very dependable bat.

Ezra Sutton 3B
Star potential for the 20 year old Sutton. Said not to be the happiest away from his home in Jersey, but regardless he has the skills.

The experts are of course saying the Cubs should compete. Obviously however the lack of a starting pitcher of much quality could see this team struggle to get anyone out.
