Italy - Heavyweights - Round 2
Round 2:
Francesco Damiani vs Bonino Allevi - After a slow start, Damiani started to enforce his will in the 3rd, scoring several hard shots that nearly had Allevi out on his feet. Damiani sensed his man was still in trouble coming out in the 4th and charged hard, scoring a knockdown with a huge left-right combo! Allevi gamely got up but was immediately trapped on the ropes where Damiani started using him as a punching bag until the referee stopped it for the 4th round TKO!
Primo Carnera vs Gino Buonvino - Carnera scored a knockdown in the 1st, then 2 in the 2nd, the final one for the 10 count as he swarmed Buonvino throughout.
Luigi Musina vs Cesare Di Benedetto - Musina used a well rounded attack to pick Di Benedetto apart, averaging over 35 connects per round to only 10.4 for Di Benedetto. It was Musina's jab that ended it though as Musina used it to open a gash over the left eye of Di Benedetto, and then targeting it reopened it several times before the fight was ended in the 10th round.
Alfio Righetti vs Giancinto Franzolin - Righetti was the faster, stronger and slicker boxer in this one, scoring 3 knockdowns, including 2 in the 15th round, with the final one seeing Franzolin out but being saved by the bell! It went to the judges who scored it 14-1, 13-2, 14-1 for Righetti.
Piero Tomasoni vs Saverio Grizzo - Grizzo never had a chance against the more polished Tomasoni, who worked the jab-cross sequence to perfection throughout the night to keep Grizzo on his heels. It went to the judges who scored it 13-1, 13-1, 12-2 for Tomasoni.
Santo Amonti vs Salvatore Ruggirello - This was a brutal 3 round affair that saw Ruggirello down in the 1st round, Amonti down in the 2nd round then Ruggirello down and out in the 3rd for the KO! The fans were on their feet throughout this action packed match!
Giacomo Bozzano vs Guiseppe Sanga - Bozzano scored knockdowns in the 4th then again in the 6th for the KO as he whitewashed Sanga.
Franco Cavicchi vs Domenico Scala - Scala went down in the 1st round, and was recalcitrant throughout the rest of the fight as Cavicchi stalked him unmercifully. He finally caught up with Scala in the 9th round, scoring the KO on a sizzling hook to the midsection!
Arthur De Kuh vs Biagio Chianese - After a solid 1st round De Kuh landed several huge shots in the 2nd then pinned the hapless Chianese against the ropes in the corner of Chianese. With 7 seconds left in the round Chianese's corner inexplicitly threw in the towel! Chianese was livid with his corner afterwards, stating that he wasn't hurt as badly as they thought and he should have been allowed to continue the round.
Erminio Spalla vs Claudio Cassanelli - Spalla won nearly every round in workman like fashion until the 9th round when he scored a pair of spectacular knockdowns enroute to the TKO by way of referee's decision!
Paolo Vidoz vs Armando Zanini - After an uneventful 1st round where both men appeared tentative, Vidoz came out with a 1-2 combo that caused blood to literally spurt from a huge gash on the inside of the right eyelid of Zanini. The referee immediately took him to the doctor who ended it as the cut was in a spot that is nearly impossible for a cutman to close.
Lorenzo Zanon vs Domenico Adinolfi - Zanon built up a solid lead despite a flash knockdown in the 7th round, but Adinolfi scored a pair of knockdowns in the fatal 11th. The final shot was the end of the line for Zanon as he couldn't beat the count!
Dante Cane vs Piermario Baruzzi - Cane survived a 4th round knockdown to score 3 of his own, including the KO shot in the 14th! Cane was up 8-4, 5-7, 7-5 through 13 rounds.
Giovanni De Luca vs Franco DePiccoli - DePiccoli built up a big lead against De Luca then survived a knockdown in the 14th and then again in the 15th to win the 10-5, 9-6, 9-6 decision.
Charley Massera vs Francesco Pianeta - Each man scored a knockdown, but neither man inspired through most of the fight sending it to the judges who scored it 8-6, 7-7, 9-5 for Massera.
Roberto Roberti vs Giuseppe Ros - Ros had a very slight lead when he opened a cut over Roberti's left eyebrow that ended the fight. Ros was up 6-6, 6-5, 6-5 throgh 13 rounds.
