while i do agree, it does happen. It should be the exception, not the norm.
Ball players have their certain amount of arrogance about them, and im sure they have there "hopes" about where they play. But overall, smart players know the game, and recognize that their skills are dropping, they cant hit worth a damn, and that they should be a bench player.
In real life, Johny Damon holding out for a fortune and a starting fielding job, he cant field/throw to save his life, but he can hit(in yankee stadium). He should be a DH, but he will be the last person to see that for some reason. While Aubrey Huff, knows his bat isnt what it was, takes a lesser salary to DH play 1st. He knows he is not the starter he once was.

I dont think my older players should all be angry if they are bench players, stepping aside to let a much more capable player move through the ranks.

Maybe just turn morale off?
