2007 IPA Pro Cup Finals - Game Two at Winchester Park in Oxford
Oxford Hangs On, Tops Stars 6-5, Up 2-0 in Finals
The Oxford Red Caps were outhit and outhomered, but they still managed to win their second game in a row in the IPA Pro Cup Finals at Winchester Park. Stoner outhit them 10-7 and outhomered them 2-0, but the Stars came out on the short end of the score 6-5. The Red Caps bolted to a 5-0 in the second inning and then hung on for a slim victory. Bomber Belinsky (3-1 2.54) went eight innings for the win. He gave up three runs and eight hits and departed in the ninth with a 6-2 lead. Stoner then teed off on reliever Dan Sisler. SS Karol Zodoka (.347) jacked a two-run homer and LF Matt Merrill (.370) hit a solo blast to bring the Stars to within a run. Doyle Chadwick was summoned from the bullpen and he got the final out.
SS Johnny Zumwalt (.237) led Oxford with two RBIs, while 1B Timmy Binford (.385) had two hits and an RBI. LF Mack Spencer (.361) and 2B Casey Leeburn (.259) each also batted in a run. Taking the loss for Stoner was starter Georgie West (2-2 3.73), who was smoked for six runs in his six-plus innings.
