Oxford Wins on McDonald's HR 7-4, Trails Viks 2-1
Bayview usually lives by the long ball, today at Winchester Park in Oxford, they died by the long ball. CF Wayne McDonald (.316) went deep in the ninth with a three-run walk-off homer to subdue the Vikings and give the Red Caps their first win the TU Final 4 Series and chopped Bayview's margin to 2-1. It was a tough loss for the Vikings as they had rallied from a 3-0 score after six innings. Bomber Belinsky had a two-hit shutout going until the seventh inning when Bayview cut it to 3-2, tied it up in the eighth and again in the ninth, but to no avail.
2B Johnny Zumwalt (.310) led Oxford's 10-hit attack with 3-5, including a solo homer and two runs batted in. McDonald got his third homer of the playoffs and now had 13 RBIs in the postseason. Bayview totaled seven hits and were paced by RF Sozi Akiyama (.600), who had three hits, including a home run. SS Dan Conroy (.192) contributed two RBIs in defeat.
Starters Bomber Belinsky and Charley Tubbs both had decent outings. Belinsky allowed three runs on five hits in eight innings, while Tubbs permitted four runs in his eight innings. Nicky Nicholson (1-0 2.08) got credit for the win, despite blowing the save in the ninth. Josh Glover (0-1) was the victim of McDonald's game-winning blast and got the loss.
