I am certainly no expert, and only gathered my info by experience in several leagues over several versions of the game (which is a relatively small sample size).
What I notice is that fan interest drives the attendance the most. The biggest thing that drives fan interest is wins. Player popularity also drives the fan interest, several points per player (you can watch this grow or shrink immediately as the player joins or leaves the team).
Then the next thing that drives attendance is price, although ridiculously high or low prices will have bigger affect than fan interest.
Somewhat less obvious is how the fan loyalty affects things. But I think the larger the fan loyalty, the longer a team can go without winning, without seriously impacting the fan interest.
I think market size affects the media contract, and also the amount people are willing to pay for tickets.
My understanding of fan loyalty and market size are closer to guesses than informed understandings. But fan interest and ticket sales can be seen to go hand in hand.
Fan interest is somewhat fickle and changes more frequently. I think if I were to set things up to drive attendance, I would focus on the market size and fan loyalty. I think market size and fan loyalty drive things more in the long run.
