Larkin doesn't stand out as being a for sure HOF. Sure, he had a good career. Sure, he had same very good seasons. But I just don't think of him in the HOF. He may have been fun to watch, but I don't think of him as being the best SS ever to play the game - or even in the last 20 years. Good, sure. But not HOF caliber in my book.

Like I said, I wouldn't be upset if he got in. My standards would change if he gets in, and I think they'd be lower because of it. To each his own, though.
Well of course he wasnt the best ever SS to ever play the game. If that is your criteria your HOF will consist of 9/10 players. He was the best SS in the NL and one of the top 3 in MLB pretty much every year he played. His overall numbers may look weak compared to some of todays SS but you may have forgotten that he along with Ripken were the transition into todays SS.

He won the silver slugger award 9 times, he was a 12 time all star, and won 3 gold gloves, in addition to 1 MVP.

Like you dont think top 3 SS's should be in the Hall of Fame I dont feel players that dont play defense should be in the HOF. Its based on opinion. If certain other players got in Id open the Hall of Fame for Edgar as it is there are players right now Id have in ahead of Edgar( Don Mattingly, Bert Blyleven).

For comparison Edgar made the All Star game 7 times, , won 5 silver slugger awards and never won the MVP.

Edgar was a great hitter, one of the best right handed hitters to ever play the game while Larkin was a great player.

Compared to what is in the Hall of Fame, Larkin is a no brainer.
