Well, owners get something for nothing if they sign an unknown player to a longterm contract for league minimum and he performs like a Pro Bowler. If you don't have a problem with owners terminating contracts with players who are underperforming their salaries, why would you have a problem with players terminating contracts if they're overperforming their salaries?
