Change date of Rule 5 Draft?

Our league has a problem.

With a new playoff round being added this season, the playoffs now extend into November. Because of this, the date that free agents file is now after the 12/1 Rule 5 draft date (I believe it's 12/6 this year). Before this season and the expanded playoffs, free agents would always file prior to the Rule 5.

This is a problem because a lot of teams DFA pending FA's. Why? Because our league has a compensation system outside of the OOTP system that basically requires a team to hang onto FA's until they file. DFA'ing clears up 40-man roster spots in order to protect minor leaguers that would otherwise be exposed to the Rule 5. When the FA file date is after 12/1, we can't do this anymore, because any player DFA'd (usually star players heading for FA) would be off of the 40-man roster and therefore exposed to the Rule 5. We don't want that, but because the Rule 5 date of 12/1 and the FA file date (whatever the set amount of days after the season it is) is inflexible, we don't have a choice.

So really, there are two options:

- move the start of the season earlier
or
- move the Rule 5 draft day back 15 days or so. However, we can't seem to do that. Is there a way?
