I think the first thing to do would be to speed the game up a tad. Take 5 seconds off the play clock. That'll speed things up a little bit, an extra play or two, a little more action. If everyone seems to cope alright with it maybe take another 5 seconds off.

I believe in the NFL it's legal to play 12 offensive players (or possibly more?) if you only play 10 defensive players (or possibly fewer?) - of course this has to be maintained for the whole game. How about if every team HAD to choose between having their 10 or 12 on offense or defense. That might be fun. Or they all could do it one week a season for a laugh.

Another thing, perhaps, no microphones.
