The expansion New York Mets announced today that they have signed San Francisco Giant center fielder Willie Mays to a 3 year contract reported to be worth $1,466,000. Mays was quoted as saying “I am looking forward to returning to the Polo Grounds, I had some of my best seasons there”. The Mets also reported signing two other free agents to go along with Mays, they also signed Cardinals outfielder Curt Flood for $202,000 for 2 years and Pittsburgh relief pitcher Elroy Face for $779,000 for 2 years.
CHICAGO WHITE SOX

MILWAUKEE BRAVES
Signed free agent pitcher Don Drysdale
PITTSBURGH PIRATES
Signed free agent outfielder Frank Robinson for 3 years at $ 1,393,500.
It had been reported that the Yankees had been talking to Mays, but the Mets, outbid the Yankees at the last minute and wew able to sign Willie.
Just imagine a Yankee outfield with Mantle and Mays.
