NEW YORK POST
YANKS TRADE FOR FRANK LARY
YANKEES COMPLETE TRADE WITH BALTIMORE
BY JIM DANDY- Staff Writer
Yanks get veteran starter
NEW YORK, NY February 3, 1962
The Yankees in need of pitching help today traded Duke Maas 55-47 4.09 ERA to Baltimore for veteran pitching ace Frank Lary 110-99 3.34 ERA. The Yanks made the deal because Ralph Terry now a free agent has been rumored to sign with the expansion Houston Colt .45’s. Yankee manager Ralph Houk stated “we have offered Ralph a pretty good deal” and hopes that Terry will return. Houk also said, “we are excited to have Frank in the starting rotation”.
In another deal the Yankee’s sent veteran infielder Joe DeMaestri to San Francisco for relief pitcher Billy Loes . Loes career record is 77-59 with a ERA of 3.88. Houk said of Loes “he should be a good addition to the bullpen”.
in addition to free agent Terry the Yankee’s are hoping resign several other free agents including third baseman Clete Boyer, pitchers Luis Arroyo, Art Ditmar, Ryne Duren and Bob Turley. Houk also stated “we sure hope we can get most of these guys back in pinstripes”.
In other free agent news around the major leagues, Baltimore and Pittsburgh completed a deal. The Orioles sent first baseman Dick Wiliams and minor league pitcher Jesus Feliz to the Pirates for catcher Hal Brown.
There is a rumor that Dodger pitcher Don Drysdale now a free agent has been talking to the Orioles on a possible deal. In another rumor the expansion Mets have offered Giants free agent Stu Miller a 3 year contract around $ 436,500. Hopefully the new team can sign the veteran relief pitcher.
