I had this happen to me one of the times I did a patch during beta testing (there were multiple patches beyond the ones that went public. I let the installer install in the default location, then manually moved the files that were installed that way over to my game location. After that, I haven't had any problems with the installer. I don't know why the problem occurred that one time. No one else seemed to have a similar problem at the time. So, it makes me think it was a localized problem -- something that got corrupted about the game folder on my Mac.
