Tycobbian Union
Zitek TU's Top Hitter for 2005
What a way to finish off the year -- being honored with the 2005 Golden Bat Award in the Tycobbian Union. It had already been a very special season for High Mesa's standout left fielder Adam Zitek, but today's announcement really put the icing on his cake. The 27-year-old Zitek established a new record for RBIs with 170 this season, easily smashing the old mark of 146 set by East Point's slugger Karol Zodoka in 2002. Zitek also blasted 51 homers this season, the second-most ever in the IPA. Only Zodoka has ever hit more. Zodoka walloped 54 in 2002. All season long Adam Zitek gave opposing pitchers fits by hitting .305 as he collected 171 hits, 21 doubles, 4 triples, 51 home runs, 108 runs scored and 170 RBIs.
Ranking second in the balloting was 26-year-old first sacker Mac Faulkner of the Hartsdale Hellcats, who hammered out a .344 batting average with 30 home runs, 130 RBIs and 106 runs scored.
Third baseman Joe Courtney of the Oxford Red Caps finished third in the voting. The 31-year-old Courtney batted .322 with 39 roundtrippers, 113 RBIs, scored 109 runs, walked 125 times and compiled a .448 on-base percentage.
